Halifax Regional Council is expected to discuss today a motion regarding the name, “Cornwallis,” on municipal assets like parks and streets. The motion was made by Councillor Shawn Cleary who represents District 9: Halifax West Armdale.
The motion calls for Halifax to set up an expert panel to write a staff report on how the city should handle municipal assets that bear the name, Cornwallis, and how that report would apply to the city’s Statement of Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
Reporter Sam Calio is at Halifax Regional Council to cover the debate over this issue.
